Montréal, June 18, 2026 – Earlier this week, Corey Eccles (Royal Montreal) arrived at Club de golf La Bête as the two-time defending champion of the Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship, presented in collaboration with belairdirect. He lived up to expectations by winning for the third consecutive year and for the fourth time in five years!

Tied for fifth place with a score of 72 after Monday’s round, the Montrealer put himself in a strong position to win the very next day. He carded a round of 67 (-5) to climb to provisional first place, with one day of competition still to go.

Eccles managed to defend his lead by recording a 74 (+2) on Wednesday, despite a strong finish from Vincent Mucci (Le Versant), the 2025 Duke of Kent champion, who finished the round with a 70 (-2). The winner was crowned with an overall score of 213 (-3), whilst Mucci took second place at 215 (-1). Mathieu Bélanger (Public Golfer Program), who had led the field on the first day, rounded off the top-3 with a final score of 217 (+1).

The action was equally thrilling in the women’s competition. Gabrielle Davidson (Royal Montreal) trailed behind the 2025 Senior Golfer of the Year, Suzanne Ricard (Royal Montreal), by one stroke at the start of the final round of the Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship.

The 33-year-old managed to stage a comeback, finishing the day with a round of 80, whilst Ricard carded an 82. Davidson clinched victory with a total of 233, one stroke ahead of her nearest challenger. The winner’s comeback was even more impressive given that she had been six strokes behind Ricard at the end of the first round.

Marie-Andrée Ouimet (Hawkesbury Golf & Curling Club) carded a 77 on Wednesday, the best score of the day in the women’s competition. Her global score of 235 moved her up to third place in the tournament.

Keep an Eye Out for Two Provincial Teams

The Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship also served as a selection process for the men’s and women’s teams that will represent Golf Québec in the inter-provincial competitions. Both teams were identified based on the best scores at the provincial event. The inter-provincial competitions, on the other hand, consist of the first two rounds of the national events.

Gabrielle Davidson, Suzanne Ricard and Marie-Andrée Ouimet will proudly represent Golf Québec at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO, which will take place at the Burlington Golf & Country Club in Ontario from August 4 to 7. As well, Corey Eccles, Vincent Mucci and Mathieu Bélanger will compete against other provincial teams at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO, which will take place from August 18 to 21, at the Brantford Golf & Country Club Ltd., also in Ontario.

Golf Québec’s staff will be back on the courses on June 22 for the Provincial Indigenous Championship, which will take place at Club de golf Lorette and will precede the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup, to be held on June 27 and 28, at Golf Le Mirage.
