Montréal, June 4, 2026 – Anthony Jomphe (Chicoutimi) and Alexandre Mercier (Le Blainvillier) were locked in a tight battle in the final of the Men’s Provincial Match Play Championship, presented in collaboration with belairdirect, on Wednesday at Club de golf Cowansville. Jomphe ultimately came out on top, winning the amateur title with a 2-and-1 victory in the final match.

To reach the final, Jomphe defeated, in quick succession, Ryan Harris (Windmill Heights), Francis Gaudreau (Montmagny), Zach Pageau (Vallée du Richelieu), and Guillaume Paquette (Public Golfer Program).

The day’s winner recorded victories of 7 and 6, 7 and 6, 7 and 5, and 1 up during his brilliant run.

For his part, Mercier, who was crowned at the Spring Open on May 25, also put in a spectacular performance during the day. After defeating Samuel Labrecque (Summerlea) in the first round, he went on to beat Justin Charlebois (Le Blainvillier) 8 and 7, Cameron Robitaille (Saint-Hyacinthe) 2 and 1, and Éloik Bertrand (Pinegrove Country Club) 1up, to reach the final against Jomphe.

The champion of the senior competition remained the same as in 2025. Sylvain Harvey (Alpin) took top honours for a second consecutive year thanks to his 4 and 3 victory over the local club’s representative, Antoine Lebrun (Cowansville).

Harvey won three hard-fought matches on his way to the Championship. He first defeated Luc Bergeron (Longchamp) 1 up, before beating Christian Deschênes (Vallée du Richelieu), and Michel Courchesne (Vallée du Richelieu) with scores of 3 and 2, and 3 and 1 respectively.

After losing his first-round match in the main amateur event, William Cartier-Watchorn (Le Blainvillier) rolled up his sleeves in the consolation bracket to eventually beat Peter Jr Malo (Royal Montreal) in the final. Meanwhile, Jean Roux (Public Golfer Program) defeated Éric Paquin (Ki-8-Eb) 5 and 4 in the final match of the seniors’ consolation draw.

The Golf Québec team will be back on the course from June 15 to 17, for the Women’s and Men’s Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship at La Bête, in Mont-Tremblant.
