Montréal, June 1, 2026 – Alexis Rouleau (Vallée du Richelieu) and Zack Bourgeois (Le Blainvillier/Québec team) were locked in a tight battle in the boys’ overall category at the 2026 Assante Optimist Classic, held at Club de golf Glendale in Mirabel. The suspense lasted until the very end of the second round, and it was ultimately Rouleau who had the last word in a play-off.
As a result, the representative from Vallée du Richelieu successfully retained the title he won last year at the Assante Optimiste Classic. After carding a round of 70 (-2) on Saturday, Rouleau saw Bourgeois, who was fifth after 18 holes, stage a spectacular comeback on Sunday. Bourgeois carded a 68 (-3) to join him at the top of the leaderboard, recording 142 (-1) after 36 holes.
Lucas Zhao (Pinegrove) rounded out the top 3 in the category with a score of 144 (+1).
In the girls’ division, Sofia De Zordo (Balmoral/Québec team) stood out with rounds of 72 (+1) and 74 (+2) to finish in the lead at 146 (+3). Alexandra Botsis (Rosemère Fontainebleau/Québec team) was her closest challenger at +9.
Another play-off took place in the girls’ bantam category, where Florence Ho (Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club) and Victoria Masse (Le Blainvillier) were tied at 150 (+7) after 36 holes. Ho got the better of her opponent at the extra hole. Adam Lauzon (Vallée du Richelieu) emerged victorious in the boys’ bantam competition with a score of 145 (+2).
Amy Ma (Le Parcours du Cerf) repeated her feat at Club de golf Glendale by winning again this year in the Pee-wee category. In the mosquito category, Ziqi Tan (Public Golfer Program) also defended the title she won in 2025. Corey Zhao (Royal Ottawa) won the Pee-wee boys’ category, whilst Edouard Marchand (Vallée du Richelieu) triumphed in the mosquito boys’ category.
All of this weekend’s winners will have the opportunity to compete in the OPTIMIST International Junior Golf Championships, which will take place in July in Florida.
Kate Guo (Pinegrove), Lorie Rosa (Lanaudière), Elizabeth Dufresne (Vallée du Richelieu), Mylee Murillo Beaudoin (Le Blainvillier), Gracelyn Xiao (Rivermead), Charles-Edmond Proulx (Vallée du Richelieu), Oscar Ricketts (Beaconsfield), Charly Pinel (Bellechasse), and Mikaël Coupal (Vallée du Richelieu) are the other members of the Québec team who took part in the 2026 Assante Optimiste Classic.
The next event on Golf Québec’s calendar is the Men’s Provincial Match Play Championship to be presented in collaboration with belairdirect, from June 1 to 3, in Cowansville.
