Spring Open: Alexandre Mercier Takes the Win at Beaconsfield

Montréal, May 26, 2026 – More than 120 golfers gathered on Monday at the Beaconsfield Golf Club for the 98th edition of the Spring Open presented in collaboration with belairdirect, an event marking the official launch of the Golf Québec season.

Amateur golfer Alexandre Mercier (Le Blainvillier) shone with a remarkable round of 65 (-6) to claim top honours in the season opener. With the lead-up for grabs after 17 holes, the 24-year-old sank an eagle on the 18th hole to seal his victory.

“I’m delighted to have secured my first victory in this prestigious tournament. It went really well today. I had a planned game strategy: I knew where to attack and where to play it safe. I stuck to it to the T, I stayed calm throughout the round, and the score reflected a very good day overall,” commented the champion after the official ceremony.

Still in the amateur division, Jean-Philippe Parr (Ki-8-Eb) and Jake Houston (Royal Montreal) tied for second place in the category with a round of 67 (-4).

Two professionals, Alexis Clément (Marthelinois) and Pierre-Alexandre Bédard (Royal Québec), also finished with scores of -4.

In the end, it was Bédard who won the category, as his rival was unable to compete in the tiebreaker. He also walked away with the $3,000 prize awarded to the winner.
“I’m really happy and it’s been a brilliant day! It’s always a tournament where it’s difficult to perform. I’ve been playing here since I was 15 and I’m really pleased with my performance – it’s my first title here!” said Bédard at the end of his round.

William Duquette (Club Laval-sur-le-Lac), James Newton (Royal Ottawa), and Brandon Lacasse (Le Blainvillier) tied for third place at -3 (68) in the professional division.

In total, $15,000 was awarded to the top 15 professional golfers and those tied for those positions at the event, which was once again greatly appreciated by the players, thanks in large part to the numerous improvements made to the course over the past year.

The Golf Québec team is now turning its attention to organizing the Assante Optimiste Classic, scheduled for May 30 and 31, at the Glendale Golf Club.
