Golf Québec – Debbie Savoy Morel Cup
Montréal, June 27, 2024 – Anne-Léa Lavoie (Royal Québec) and Suzanne Ricard (Royal Montréal) walked away Thursday with top honors from the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup presented in collaboration with belairdirect. The two golfers won their respective categories in the two-round tournament held at the Ki-8-Eb golf club in Trois-Rivières.
In action in the amateur division, a category reserved for athletes aged 15 and over, Lavoie posted a cumulative score of +3 (147) at the top of the overall standings. Naomi Yacyshen (Vallée du Richelieu) and Mackenzie Cloutier, a Blainvillier member and representative of the 2024 Québec team, followed in a tie for second place at +9 (153, +4).
For her part, Suzanne Ricard took top honours in the senior category in a play-off against Marie-Thérèse Torti, champion of the event in 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2019, who has been inducted into the Québec Golf Hall of Fame in 2021.
Both tied at +7 (151) after two rounds, the rivals played two more holes and Ricard, named 2023 Senior Player of the Year, had the last word to claim the coveted title at the 18th.
Hélène Chartrand (Summerlea) rounded out the top-3 with an overall score of +11 (153).
As tradition dictates, the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup is the first stage in the Jocelyne Bourassa Series, which will identify the Québec amateur and senior women's teams that will represent the province at the next Canadian championships.
The second leg of this series will be held at Le Blainvillier, from July 15 to 17, as part of the Women's Provincial Amateur and Senior Championship.
In the meantime, Golf Québec staff will be at the Royal Québec to present the Duke of Kent from July 2 and to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its host club.
In conclusion, Golf Québec would like to thank Club de golf Ki-8-Eb for hosting the Debbie Savoy Morel Cup, which once again brought together the best amateur and senior women golfers in the province!
