Milby, 2014 Pierre-Nadon Prize

Historically, the Pierre-Nadon Prize was always presented to a person who contributed in an exceptional way to the development and promotion of golf in Québec.

Mario Brisebois

This year, Milby is writing a new page of history by becoming the first club or organization to ever receive this Prize as they have shown impressive courtesy and generosity by hosting tournament over tournament.

And indeed, they were major events: the Canada games, Canadian Women’s Senior Championship, two provincial women’s championships, as well as a University and College event. They were also hosts to two events of the Québec PGA Tour and stepped in to present junior events, including the CN Future Links Championship, when one of their fellow golf clubs experienced difficulties with its course and needed help.

This whirlwind of activity, over a 2-year period, is absolutely unique in the country.

As a result, the Pierre-Nadon Prize will be awarded to a golf club for the first time. It will be presented to the Board of Directors, with Mr. Normand Ratti as their President, but also to the staff and all their members who kindly opened access to their course on top of volunteering for long days of work.

Another aspect of this great honor resides in the fact that Milby is following golf legend Jocelyne Bourassa who was our 2013 recipient.

Golf Québec Salutes Milby

The selection of Milby, located in the Eastern Townships, was made by an independent Committee composed of golf reporters to commemorate the life and passion of their late colleague who passed away ten years ago. Their initiative is fully supported and sanctioned by Golf Québec.

“We salute and applaud the choice of Milby which is the perfect example of the type of collaboration we need in these days and age where, we must admit to it, it is increasingly difficult to find host clubs”, mentioned Jean-Pierre Beaulieu, Executive Director of Golf Québec.

Golf Québec mandated Rémi Bouchard, Canadian professional senior champion and Golf Canada ambassador in the province, to present a plaque to the Club Professional, Guy Faucher, on behalf of the whole golf community.

“Thank you so much for honouring Milby. Most of all, thank you to our Milby family in which everyone is playing such an important part. This would not be possible without our champion volunteers who are conducting our events and supervising all activities during the rest of the year. We even have members who work in the winter. Some of them are actually cleaning up the wooded areas twice a week”, explained Faucher.

Generosity triumphs

By the way, the fact of giving back is actually fruitful for Milby. It is always comforting to see six-figure benefits while other courses are struggling to get by.

“These tournaments provide us with great media coverage and, as a result, many golfers hear or read about us which sometimes incites them to come and visit us”, said Guy Faucher.

Congratulations to Milby! Hopefully, many will follow in their footsteps.
