Montréal, October 7, 2019 – Diane Dunlop-Hébert is an influential lady, here and abroad, and a groundbreaker.

Through her presidential mandates at Golf Québec and Golf Canada, Diane Dunlop-Hébert presented several trophies at the end of many competitions. This time, she is on the receiving end as she is the one being awarded with the Pierre-Nadon Prize in recognition for her constant and relentless contribution to support and promote the development of her sport. This selection, made every year by a golf reporters’ committee, was unanimous.

“Diane’s contribution is just O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G,” mentioned Debbie Savoy Morel of Golf Le Mirage.

Professional of the Year in Canada, Debbie is a great collaborator and admirer of Diane, a business woman who is Vice-President of Groupe Park Avenue.

“Her work surely was complex and quite difficult to accomplish as the golf industry is still stuck in the rut of an archaic structure that was implementing since the very beginning,” analyzed Debbie.

Without a doubt, changing the fundamental mindsets of such a “boys’ club” surely was a huge challenge.

“Diane had to face every wall erected through the history of our sport and, quite frankly, I can’t think of any issues that she was not able to resolve, including the amalgamation of associations,” said Debbie.

An inspiring influence

Diane Dunlop-Hébert is a woman of vision. Did you know that she recruited Charlie Beaulieu when she was President of Golf Québec and appointed him to reorganize the existing Fédération québécoise de golf? This year, he followed in her footstep and became President of Golf Canada.

“Diane’s legacy is absolutely incredible. I remember when she would tour the regions of Québec to find out what people had to say. Through the years, she definitely contributed to changing the image of golf, here in the province but also in Canada,” confided the current national President.

And the impact of her actions spreads abroad.

“Diane focused on growing the participation of women in golf and to make it more inclusive to welcome junior players. And you know what? The USGA is now adopting the same approach,” added Debbie.

Historic firsts in two establishments

Even the Royal & Ancient noticed and appreciated the implication of Diane Dunlop-Hébert.

Take Peter Dawson who is a leader of considerable influence in the golf universe. He is responsible, for instance, for the comeback of golf in the Olympic Games. You should know that, in 2014, he selected her to join the very first group of seven women to ever become full-privileged members at Saint-Andrews. Coincidentally, Diane just came back from Europe where she attended their AGM.

No one is more qualified to summarize and explain how Diane Dunlop-Hébert operates than Marc Tremblay who was her successor twice; first as Golf Québec President and now as Chairman of the Québec Golf Hall of Fame.

“Diane is an exceptional leader who brings people together. With her passion and dedication of countless hours, she always surrounds herself with the most competent and skilled allies to whom she issues very clear mandates with absolute trust. She makes sure that they have the required tools to succeed. Some will call it “Leadership 101”, but very few leaders are confident enough to delegate properly. She earns the trust and loyalty of her team members and gives it back by supporting them too, as Charlie Beaulieu and I can testify,” commented Marc Tremblay when asked to describe our prizewinner.

Even if her mandates with Golf Québec and Golf Canada are ending this year, Diane Dunlop-Hébert, recipient of the 2019 Pierre-Nadon Prize, is now President of the Mount-Bruno Country Club where she became the very first woman to be appointed to a leadership role in 101 years.

Presented to her during the Golf Québec Fundraiser Tournament held this Monday at Golf Le Mirage, the Pierre-Nadon Prize is in very good hands.

Pierre Nadon was a reporter, a great scholar, and a perfect gentleman. The Prize that is named after him is awarded to a person who contributed in an exceptional way to the development and promotion of golf throughout the years. This is what Diane Dunlop-Hébert did, up to now, and her journey is not finished yet.

About the Pierre Nadon Prize

A true supporter of golf in our province, Pierre Nadon was a journalist who was taken away by cancer at 68 years old. He ended his career at La Presse and was editor of the Golf Canada magazine. His fellow journalists are composing the selection committee that is working in collaboration with Golf Québec for the presentation of this Prize.

Since 2005, the Pierre-Nadon Prize is awarded every year by a group of reporters who are specialized in golf in Québec, Mario Brisebois, Gilles Terroux and al., as well as by Golf Québec. The recipient of this homage is a person who contributed in an exceptional way to the development and promotion of golf in Québec.
