Montréal, October 18, 2016 – Since 2007, Rémi Pronovost has been dedicating his spare time to young players of the Lower St. Lawrence region and contributed to initiating passions by introducing them to the game of golf. Through his volunteer work, he helps them build dreams by facilitating their skills development which, in turn, incites them to make golf their sport of a lifetime and leads them to compete at higher levels.
At first, Rémi became involved at the Val-Neigette Golf Club where he was a member from 2007 to 2010. He was instrumental to the implementation of the CN Future Links program in 2008 and supervised various activities including a Junior Skills Challenge held in 2010. As juniors were getting more interested to discover golf, he designed a junior conditioning program helping them to get back to the game in April 2009 and 2010. Another Junior Skills Challenge was also presented at the Empress Golf Club in 2013.
Now a member at Club de golf Bic, Rémi was appointed as the Junior Representative of the Lower St. Lawrence/Côte-Nord Regional Association in 2011, a position that he still holds today. He had the opportunity to accompany his regional teams at the 2010 and 2012 Québec Games as well as the regional delegations competing in the Provincial Junior Championships from 2011 up to now. He was in charge of planning the Pomerleau Junior Classic presented at Le Bic in 2012 and was honoured as the 2012 Volunteer of the Year by the Lower St. Lawrence Unité régionale de loisir et de sport (URLS).
In addition, Rémi took part in the school visitation initiative when the Commission scolaire des Phares introduced the Golf in Schools program in its elementary schools in 2012-2013. He also visited the key stakeholders of all regional golf clubs to explain the basics of this new program. Then, in 2014-2015, a new regional tour was organized to visit all regional high schools and invite them to join the Golf in Schools program too.
As Regional Junior Representative, Rémi is an active member of the provincial Player Development Committee since 2015. Golf Québec is proud to honour his exceptional contribution to golf development, both at the regional and provincial levels, by recognizing Rémi Pronovost as its 2016 Volunteer of the Year.
